Life membership of GirlGuidingNZ is conferred by the National Forum on those who have significantly contributed to the development of Guiding over a number of years, and who continue to support and promote the values of the organisation. Life members are those we want to keep involved in the organisation for their counsel and advice. They are a select group of up to 20 at a time.
All life members are members of the Forum. As such, they may attend Forum meetings and have the right to speak and to nominate, but not to vote.
If you are a registered GirlGuiding NZ leader, click here to find out who are the current life members - to view this page you will be required to log in to the leader area.
Who should be considered for life membership?
For consideration, a nominee would normally:
- Have demonstrated quality leadership in national positions
- Be highly respected by current membership
- Consistently demonstrate the values of GirlGuidingNZ
- Be committed to the ongoing development of GirlGuidingNZ
- Have supported or contributed to Guiding as a member or in the wider community
- Have an interest in the girls of today.
- Ideally, nominees would have previously received a GirlGuidingNZ national award.
Process for considering nominations
Recommendations for life membership should be made to the national awards committee. Recommendations will be considered by the national awards committee and submitted to the National Board for endorsement. Upon recommendation by the National Board, life membership will be conferred by a vote of the National Forum.
Making a recommendation
To recommend a candidate for life membership, please write to the national awards committee, care of the National Office. This recommendation should include a submission on how the candidate meets the criteria listed above, and be supported by at least three written references.
