Trefoil Guild - Photo Gallery

Hokitika Museum
Westland Girl Guides have entrusted their records & photographs to Hokitika Museum. In recognition of the significant amount of staff time involved in cataloguing their collection Westland Girl Guides have made a donation of $200 to the Museum. Thank you so much! Donations really do help us achieve more and we love to feel appreciated.
This came about after Westland Trefoil Guild visited the museum to view the archives of Girl Guiding Westland.

Thinking Day Celebrations 2012
Church Corner Trefoil Guild celebrated Thinking Day on their usual meeting night 20th February on a calm mild evening at one of their member's homes, on what has become an anticipated evening of croquet on the lawn.
(Thankfully, the day that followed wasn't as eventful as the previous Thinking Day, when Christchurch suffered their tragic earthquake of 2011).
They gathered together to enjoy their BYO tea before a short, but meaningful Thinking Day celebration, where not only their Guiding sisters in Christchurch, around New Zealand and right around the world were remembered, but also their own members who had been gathered up by their families and taken to other parts of New Zealand, following the many quakes and aftershocks we in Christchurch have experienced.
Their special guests were Bonny Stephens (East-West Canterbury Trefoil Co-ordinator) and Rosemary Burchett, a Trefoil member from Beckley Guild, England, who keeps in touch with us by email. During the evening Rosemary presented Bonny with a donation to go towards the refurbishment of Cracroft House, our Guiding Centre, which was badly effected by the earthquake, and now faces demolition.
This was much appreciated. It is great to think that guiding members across the world are thinking of their Christchurch guiding sisters during this uncertain time.

The money was given to help set up 3 new Guiding Groups in the South Island and came from the International Developement Fund. This fund, generated from a percentage of our fees we pay each year, helps support projects for Scouting and Guiding throughout the world.

Members of the Christchurch on Avon Trefoil Guild are seen holding 'Teddies" that were knitted and sent from the South Northamptonshire Trefoil Guild UK, they joined our Guilds midwinter outing for a warming meal and friendship following our months of earthquakes and aftershocks. Despite all that has happened, Christchurch Guilds are still meeting each month and continue to enjoy the fellowship Trefoil can give. The "Teddies" certainly let us know that we are not alone, and members worldwide are thinking of us. Many thanks to you all.

Church Corner Trefoil Guild Christchurch, celebrated Thinking Day the evening before at their meeting, they remembered past members and trefoil members worldwide, and then followed with a game of Croquet. Little did they know that the following day, theirs, and all of Christchurch's world would be turned upside down. What a Thinking Day to remember.

Jean Schaef on turning 100
A party was held for Jean in Greymouth, on the 29th January with Family, friends, the Greymouth Mayor and of course The Westland Trefoil Guild.
Jean has a long history in Guiding on the West Coast, and still enjoys her meetings with her Trefoil friends.

This sunflower was grown from seeds, given out at the Trefoil Gathering in
Tauranga last year.
Josie Pike from Howick in Auckland, (Our Stamp Bank
person) obviously has green fingers, and sent me a photo of her handy
work.
Well done Josie, I hope other members have had as big a
success.
Lets spread the word, and the seeds, and watch Trefoil and the
sunflowers grow.

Above: What a lovely afternoon when Trefoil members were invited to help
celebrate Jean's 99th birthday party on 29 January 2010. In the photo (from the left) are Westland Trefoil Guild members, Robin Briggs, Alice Noble, Anne Thorpe and Jean Schaef with Esma Devlin in the front.
Jean was the Divisional Commissioner for Westland in the early 1930's
when Westland was a division of the Nelson Province, her secretary was Esma
Devlin. After canvassing, Westland became a province on their own in the
1930's when Jean was the 1st Provincial Commissioner for Westland and
Esma Devlin the 1st Provincial Secretary. Jean was also the 1st Westland
Trefoil Guild President when Trefoil was formed in Westland in 1959. She was
awarded Life Membership of Westland Trefoil Guild in 2008.
How lovely it was to have both these wonderful women in attendance
together to help Jean celebrate. They have been lifelong friends and both live in
Greymouth. Jean lives at home with her son and Esma resides in Dixon
House for the elderly. Trefoil members try to visit regularly.
Having been in Guiding since becoming a Fairy Scout in her younger years,
Jean certainly has the Guiding spirit that continues to keep her
interest.
Jean looks forward to a bigger party for her 100th next January.

Above: Rotorua Trefoil Guild celebrates 30 years
Thirty years ago Qona Mead visited Judy O’Sullivan, the then Provincial Commissioner for the Waiariki Province to request the formation of a Rotorua Trefoil Guild.
On the 29th May 1979 the first meeting was held and Qona was elected chairperson.Thirty years later we celebrated with a special luncheon at the Prince’s Gate Hotel in Rotorua. With twenty six past and present members,we started with drinks and a chance to look at the memorabilia and talk before sitting down to a delicious lunch, which was described by one member as having dinner at lunchtime in the breakfast room.
Our Chairperson, Judith Beuth welcomed us, and following the lunch the birthday cake was cut by Qona and we all sang “Happy Birthday” to us. We concluded the tribute to Qona, by presenting her with a Thirty year Trefoil Service Bar. This new red backed bar was perhaps the first to be presented in New Zealand.
To conclude, Brownie Bells was sung before daylight taps – again a happy memory, especially for Qona, an ex Brownie leader. Heather Vermeulen thanked the Rotorua Trefoil Guild for support to the Waiariki Region and our Rotorua Dictrict Co-ordinator, Debbie Cobby also thanked us for our support to Rotorua Guiding. It was a grand occasion in a very grand setting.

The Inglewood Trefoil members gathered buckets of daffodils in preparation for Daffodil Day 2009, at a property east of Inglewood in very windy conditions.
The property owner has supplied daffodils for approx. 8-9 years for the Inglewood district. Daffodils were then bundled in readiness for sale the next day, by the Trefoil members. Trefoil members have provided service to the local hospice group for a number of years assisting with the flowers, sales tables and providing items for the raffle.
Proceeds this year were slightly greater than the past year. This is always an enjoyable and rewarding local service.

To commemorate 100 years of Guiding in New Zealand the South Wairarapa Trefoil Guild have donated the book Ambitious Fun to the South Wairarapa Libraries presenting the book to Librarian Mrs Anne Dodd.
Presenting the book are (from left) Lyn Alpe, Alison Bartram, Joan Deller, Margaret peek, Charmaine Alpe, Noeline Bain, Beth Cate, and Librarian Anne Dodd.
Many former Guides will find the book an interesting read, reminiscencing various events, camps and many other worth while activities.
The book is not simply lists or records but rather the story of what they did, how and why they did it and, often, what happened next.
Above April 2009 - Hamilton Trefoil Guild
Hamilton Trefoil Guild were delighted to welcome Margaret Hearst to their April Luncheon meeting.
The photo shows Margaret, front row standing, third from left, wearing her Trefoil scarf.
Margaret is a member of Calne and District Trefoil Guild, England and corresponds with the Hamilton Guild. Both Guild groups always exchange Thinking Day and Christmas Cards. Hamilton members, and the visiting Morrinsville Trefoil Guild friends were interested to hear that English Trefoil activities were very similar to thier own.
Everyone laughed as they enjoyed singing Brownie Bells before singing taps at home time.
