 General information

Bookings are essential and a deposit must be paid to confirm your booking.

Please phone the Manager by Wednesday night before arriving at Otimai on the Friday night (09 814 9992), to confirm details of your stay

The Manager will take the fire drill on Friday night after arrival.  This will be in the Pine Room.

Otimai has a TV, Video, DVD & CD player in the Pine Room. 

Please do not drag the furniture across the floor in the Pine room.  Please lift it.

Wood for the fire in the Pine Room is in the wood shed at the back of the Lodge by the back gate.  Please remember to close the shed door to keep the wood dry.

Otimai Shop: Please remember to put on the girls kit list to bring money for the Otimai shop.  On arrival please contact the Manager for a time that suits to open the shop (usually Sunday just before departure seems to be the most favorite but it is up to the leader in charge to make this time)

Smoke free: Remember that Otimai is a smoke free area.  If you wish to smoke please do so outside the gates.

Payment: This must be made on arrival at Otimai.  Please make sure you have your final numbers of those staying for the weekend and pass this onto your treasurer and to the Manager for payment.

Arrival checklist

  1. All food and drink for the weekend
  2. First Aid Kit
  3. Money for spending at the shop
  4. Bath mats, hand towels, hand soap, tea towels, dishcloths or steelo pads
  5. Shampoo and soap for showering
  6. Toilet rolls as Otimai only supply the first five rolls to each toilet
  7. Rubbish bags and waste paper bag liners. i.e. foodtown plastic bags
  8. Craft material & activity equipment
  9. Bedding: Sleeping bag or duvet – pillow and pillow case – fitted sheet to go on mattress.  NB: No Duvets are supplied for Leaders beds.

 

Rules

  • Please fill in the Responsibility book and the Maintenance book
  • Do not put chairs on tables
  • Keep kitchen and dining room tidy
  • No eating or drinking in the Pine Room, bunk rooms or leader rooms
  • Do not swing on bunk ladders or chairs
  • Use trestle tables for crafts, not dining room tables
  • Make sure the girls do not climb on the verandah railings
  • No running through the house at any time, especially on the verandah
  • Please use the detergent and disinfectant that Otimai supplies.  Extra detergent and disinfectant is in the kitchen cleaning cupboard under the sink.
  • Please use the dishwasher on the last night of your stay to ensure dishes and cutlery are thoroughly cleaned and sterilized
  • Make sure that the cutlery, china, serving plates and dishes are returned to their correct places and that the dishes are in fact dry.
  • Make sure the girls do not climb out the windows, slide down hand rails or climb any trees.
  • Never let the girls go into the bush on their own, always with a leader or in a patrol
  • Make sure everyone keeps to the paths.
  • Anything taken into the bush must be taken out.
  • If building a bivouac, please ensure it is dismantled and the materials left in a tidy manner before leaving.
  • If using the outdoor fires please ensure they are cleared of all ashes and left over wood to go back into the wood shed.
  • Make sure the girls have supervision when taking a shower
  • There will be two rubbish bags provided at the beginning of your stay, you must provide your own after they have been filled.
  • There is a recycle bin at the back of the kitchen for cans, glass, bottles & plastic containers.  Please use this (It is the blue one with a yellow lid)
  • Remember that Otimai is on septic tanks
  • Inside shoes only in the Pine Room, eg. Slippers-socks-soft sole shoes
  • No outside shoes are to be worn in the Lodge they are to be left on the landing outside rooms.  This includes the dining room.
  • Girls No Cell Phones are allowed.  Only the leaders.
  • There is a phone in the pantry in the kitchen.  Remember this is a business phone so please if using it remember that calls cost 30cents.

Departing check list

  1. Please use HOT water to wash all polished floors, and tip the water over the grass NOT down the sink.
  2. Please give the vents above the stoves a wash after the last meal.
  3. Check the dining tables have been washed thoroughly.
  4. Leave all windows closed and curtains open
  5. Leave all mattresses down, but check under them, and between them
  6. Check under the beds
  7. Check all drawers and wardrobes are emptied
  8. Clean all bathrooms, toilets and showers, cleaning products are provided in each bathroom in the cupboard under the vanity.
  9. Hoover all bunk rooms and bedrooms, and empty the dust bag.
  10. Wash bathroom floors
  11. Empty all waste paper bins and replace plastic bag in the waste paper bins
  12. Empty toilet rubbish bin
  13. Pine room furniture is to be put back the way you found it
  14. Clean out fireplace after use, and place ashes in the container outside by the chimney on the well court yard
  15. Check you have taken all dishcloths-hand towels-bath mats, soap and tea towels
  16. All rubbish should be put in the bins provide at the back door of the kitchen and any excess rubbish must be taken home
  17. Boxes and paper must be burned or taken home

 

It is the responsibility of the Otimai Permit Holder to ensure that the patrol rooms, Pine Room, Kitchen and Dining rooms, stairs, landing verandah, bathrooms and outside area are clean and tidy before final check is done with the manager.

 The Kitchen cleaning list is on the notice board by the back door in the kitchen.  Please read it carefully.
