RANGERS: what's rangers like?

Posted June 27. 2011
Hey, I've been thinking about doing rangers - when I'm old enough - and I think I want to go, I'm just not completely sure... I was wondering if any rangers could to me more about it? What sort of stuff do you do? What happens at your meetings? Also what is your favourite thing in rangers? Thanks!!

Rangers is so much fun! You do lots of exciting stuff, like you can do flight training and camps. You work to getting interest certificates and the highest award is Queens Guide. Rangers is like an exciting version of all the things that you do at guides. You are also given a lot of leadership oppurtunities and get to see ur friends.

Hi, I have been a girlguide for the 8years and have thoroughly loved it. I was a girl guide in England until i moved out here 3 years ago and became a ranger - at rangers it is fun. Rangers for me is a time where i can chill out and have fun whilst know i am working towards something. Tonight as rangers, we did a food night where we cooked pizza and made chocolate mousse and it counts as part of a certificate. Rangers is good beacuse you get to learn leadership at the same time as having fun. You can go on camps and you become good friends with people... Even though rangers is small, the reputation is good. Hope this helps - and yes, i think you should join rangers, you would really enjoy it!! :)

Rangers is a really good experience and gives you lots of knowledge and skills for life later on. It is a good way to meet new people and have an awesome time while learning. you get to do things most kids would dream of doing, Like Jamboree. you get to do Waitomo adventures and black water raft. And game with the hobbits swords and slingshots. You also have to do lots of fun things at meetings like learn health and safety/ how to tie knots. It might seem useless at the time but later on in life you will know how to do that when someone needs help.

I have finished Rangers and got my Queens Guide Award. It is a lot of fun and unlike Guides it is more about choosing what you want to do, when and how. Although there are things you have to do to complete your Queens Guide there is a lot of choice. You complete certificates, do leadership, camping and just have fun. If you are not into tramping/camping too much you could just focus on leadership with the practical leadership. Although there is an exploration and camping part you can do instead if that interests you. There is no pressure to complete your Queens Guide as well. If you start at 14 (year 9) you have 4 years to complete it. You will always be completing things towards it in Rangers and will have plenty of help. And even if you decide not to complete your Queens Guide award it is worth going for opportunities, memories and friendships. :) Hope this helps.
