Tip Top Art
As part of my Challenge 9, I made the GirlGuiding symbol out of “jelly tip” ice-cream for tip top art.
When I started to make it, the ice-cream started melting, so I had to put it in the freezer.
When it was finished I made a diamond instead of a star that is on the girl guiding symbol.
The only part that didn’t turn out was the bottom - I had it pointed the wrong way.

Selling Biscuits at Mitre 10
One Saturday there was Brownies… but no ordinary Brownies. It was not on a Monday but on a Saturday.
We
weren’t doing the ordinary stuff we were selling Girl Guide Biscuits.
It wasn’t at the normal place we were supposed to do it because we were
doing it at Mitre 10 Mega store in Petone as an extra to try and sell
the rest of our biscuits.
We sold heaps of biscuits, made heaps of money and we had so much fun doing it!!!

Friends of Sangam New Zealand Challenge
During September our girls worked on the Badge for Friends of Sangam New Zealand Challenge and had a lot of fun.

Some of the Challenges included;
- How many girls can fit into a car? We managed to get 16 girls into a Toyota Starlet.
- Washing clothes by hand and carrying clothes in a container on their heads as they do in India.
- Making Rangoli Patterns. By making hole designs on a paper plate with nails, then putting cornflour on the plate and tapping lightly to see if the pattern came through on the concrete.
- Writing a postcard to Frances the Cat at Sangam telling her about Brownies in New Zealand.
- How to put on a sari.
- Then we had a Wheel-a-thon to raise money for Sangam where we raised $180.
- The
last thing we did was have a party for Sangam where we played some
games from India, tried some Indian food, made birthday cards to send to
them and also made a birthday cake with candles, then sung Happy
Birthday to them.
We all had a lot of fun with this badge and Challenge other units to give it a go.

What Now - Sunday 10 July
It
is amazing how much work goes into filming a TV show. One of the
Pippins was having the TV show “What Now” filmed live from her house and
we were all invited to have the chance to be there too. All the local
Districts were invited to be part of it but the location was a secret
until a few days before so as not to spoil the competition the show
runs.
We
had to arrive very early, before they closed the road and before the
show was on air, so we could have some practices. The children were
picked for the gunging and then the street was set up with a ramp for
scooters, a mini tramp and safety matting for gymnastics and a BBQ for
the Guides to keep us all warm with tasty sausages.
The Pippins had made chocolate fudge, from Guide biscuits of course, and they sold that too – all 35 pieces that we made were sold – except for the one that Johnson, the presenter, ate while he interviewed Donna live on TV. He asked Donna how long she had been involved with GirlGuiding and when she told him ”’30 years, since I was a Brownie” he said that What Now was as old as that too!
And
then it was all over, the ramps were packed up, the gunge was rinsed
away and all the sausages were eaten! The crowds all mobbed Johnson for
his autograph and then they were gone and the neighbourhood was again
quiet. This was an awesome opportunity and a great chance to be seen in
our community having fun.
These photos show – the What Now van, huddling in the cold to keep warm, Johnson interviewing Donna and talking about the fudge.
Camp Cowgirl
Camp
Cowgirl was South-Western Hutt’s District camp for 2011. It was three
days of action-packed activities with loads of girls, including Pippins,
Brownies and Guides. The camp was at Palm Grove Camp. The Brownies and
Pippins slept in cabins and the Guides slept in tents outside, which was
an interesting experience with the rain. Some of the favourite
activities were the waterslide, the flying fox and the ice cold, but
exciting, pool. “Accidently” some of us Guides got into a bit mess with
the hay bales on the last day, resulting in hay going everywhere. Camp
Cowgirl was an exciting fun filled camp, with new experiences and not
much sleep.

Day 1
One nice hot day my mum and I went to Camp
Cowgirl. I met my cousin Arwen there. When I got out of the car, I
started to unpack my luggage into my cabin, and another one of my
cousins was in the same cabin, who is Imogen. Imogen and I slept next to
each other.
Day 2
The
next day we did activities. My mum was one of my leaders and we went on
the water slide. When we went down, we went down really fast and at the
end we went into a big muddy puddle, then we moved onto the pool. After
the pool we went on the climbing hill and on the way down I cut myself
and it got worse. “Yea tonight we have a barn dance!” Imogen, Halle and I
practiced a dance for the barn dance. We made pizza bases and spread
ingredients all over. Tonight we had to dress up as a cowgirl etc.
Day 3
Today we are leaving camp so everyone
packed up their clothes and cleaned their cabins, kitchen and toilets.
The leaders had a talk with us and then we left camp. It is raining
today and Mum said we would take the quick way home.
