Challenge 9 Day

On Challenge Nine Day the first course we did was called Guides. We had to try and work out a puzzle and when we finished the puzzle it showed you what Guides do. Secondly, we did sweet treats, at sweet treats we made white chocolate and peanut butter clusters. Then we went to bird feeding, at bird feeding we wrote a letter about our self and the letters are going to be sent to a Brownie we don’t know. Then we made the feeders out of oil, pinecones and bird seeds. Next we went to sausages, at sausages we put a sausage on a stick and cooked them over a fire. Next we made tortillas with cheese and tortillas in a frying pan. After that we did ‘beads’, at beads we used wire and beads to make a little butterfly. Next we made a picture out of nature. Last but not least we made fruit bowls out of paper-mâché. And that’s what I did at Challenge Nine Day.

I enjoyed it lots because I met new people and had fun.

On July 9 I had a Challenge 9 Day. We did all sorts of fun and crazy things but first we started with walking around the room and finding the missing words. The rooms helped us figure out all the sentences o f Six Time. Then we got in to the fun part. First we did Guiding and learning the signs, second we went and made sweets. Then we made bird feeders and I made a butterfly broach made on beads to go on my sash. We then had a sausage sizzle outside using a fire that was on the ground. Finally we came to the papier mache. This was a very sticky job and most Brownies got glue all over them. We were aiming to make a bowl.

I loved the day because I got to meet new Brownies, leaders and solve problems. I also met up with a friend called Kate who is also a Brownie and whose brother was in my brother's soccer team two years ago. She is hopefully going to move to our Brownie pack next term as her family have moved houses. It was such a fun day, I hope I will get to go again next year.

I went to a Challenge 9 day for brownies on the 9th of July. At Challenge 9 day the girst thing I did was make a native picture using sticks and leaves. Then I went to paper mache and I made a bowl made from old newspaper and a balloon. After we went to a baking session and made cheese toasties made with cheese and bread. After we made them we were allowed to eat them. Then it was lunchtime. At lunch my group went to bird feeding. I made a bird feeder (of course). All you need is fat, bird seeds and a pinecone. First you dip the pinecone into the fat and you should dip the pinecone into enough fat though. Then dip it into the seeds, so that they stick. So simple! Then I made a letter for a lone brownie and I told them all about me. After that my group went to sausage sizzling and the sausage was really nice and crisp. Finally, the last thing we did was beading! At beading I made a beautiful butterfly made with light pink beads and dark pink beads. I had a really nice time because the brownie leaders were really nice and very helpful. I also made a new friend called Jessica! I hung my bird feeder in the backyard and yesterday the birds striped it!

My Telethon Adventure

At Brownies Nieka said "if anyone want to go to a Telethon and your Pareants are here, you can go and ask them and if they say yes you can go, but I am only allowed to take two girls". My Mum was not there as I go home with my friend Gracie so I thought I had missed out. However, the next day Neika sent an email to my Mum saying that I was allowed to go.

She picked me up from my house with Gracie and she took us the to Telethon. The reason we went to the Teleton is because we sold biscuits helping the Red Cross to rebuild Christchurch after the earthquake. My friends and family saw Gracie, Caitlin and I on TV. It was really cool. I got Rachel Hunter's signature in my diary and on my arm and Mike McRoberts signature too. I also got Miss World New Zealand's signature and Sonny Bill Williams.

The Telethon

On Sunday 22nd May I went to the telethon. The telethon “Rise-up for Christchurch” was raising funds after the big earthquakes that hit our city. Our Fendalton Brownies leader (Nieka) picked me and my friend Alice up and took us to the CBS Canterbury Arena. We arrived and the room was boiling hot and filled up with lots of songs and loud music. Kids of 88 (a really good band) was playing one of my favourite songs. It was awesome!

We gathered around Rachel Hunter and she interviewed our leaders on t.v. about the funds we had raised through selling biscuits. I had to wait a long time for her autograph but it was worth it. YES!!!

There were lots of other celebrities there. Alice said to me “WOW she’s really pretty” that’s when we found out that she wasn’t just a pretty girl she was Miss World New Zealand. We ran over and after another long wait got a photograph with her. She was really nice and said the Brownies had done a wonderful job for Christchurch.

Lastly we heard a whole lot of screaming and we saw Sonny Bill Williams. He was just about to leave when he spotted a little fan (which was me) and he signed my book and used my pen!!

The telethon raised more than 2.5 million dollars. I was really proud to be a part of it.

Help from Buckinghamshire

England 01 - June 2011Hello fellow Guiders

I run a Brownie pack in England and we were sad to hear of the earthquake that struck back in February. I hope you are beginning to recover from the shock and things are improving out there.

These drawings were made by the girls. They decided they wanted to help and we had a bring and buy sale. The money we raised we sent to the Red Cross New Zealand Earthquake appeal.

Yours in guiding

Still going strong after the Earthquake

The 'new normal' is being established in Christchurch and the Earthquake didn't stop girls selling their Guide Biscuits. Many girls have been out there selling their districts biscuits.

After the earthquake girls were still earning badges. These girls were busing earning their Camp Cook and Camper's Badge.
