On your bike
Last
weekend, Clifton Rangers cycled 25km on the rail trail out to Little
River campground. They had to battle terrible head winds and for those
who have done this bike ride in the best of weather, this is a huge
effort from them all.
Little River Campground, formerly
Birdlands, has something for everyone. It is 45 minutes from the city,
is situated in lush regenerating and ancient bush, has native birds and
is a perfect place to explore
and learn.

Rise Up Christchurch Car Wash
On May 22nd Beckenham Girl Guides held a car wash to raise money to donate to the Rise up Christchurch Global Telethon. Elizabeth Hattaway, Iona Taylor and Abigail Anderson along with 2 parents helped for the afternoon and all had a really good time. The girls raised $75.00 during the car wash and went down to the telethon later in the afternoon to donate the money to the cause.
Help from Buckinghamshire
Hello fellow Guiders
I run a Brownie pack in England and we were sad to hear of the earthquake that struck back in February. I hope you are beginning to recover from the shock and things are improving out there.
These drawings were made by the girls. They decided they wanted to help and we had a bring and buy sale. The money we raised we sent to the Red Cross New Zealand Earthquake appeal.
Yours in guiding

Regional Guide Camp Report
2011 Regional Guide Camp Report By Amy Wells
New friends, new skills and a ton of fun – that is what we did on Guide Camp. The regional Girl Guide Camp was held at Glenroy from the 15th – 19th January. Four long wet windy nights with a couple of fine days but we had fun the whole time! Thank you to Mr Clausen for fixing our guide tents that were damaged by the strong winds that occurred on our first night!
Knot tying and whipping were just some of the new skills I learnt and I enjoyed activities such as going on the water slide, making wind rockets, making a donkey with whipping, and jet boating. We had campfires where we sang songs and cooked marshmallows. One night we had a fancy dress disco with a Toy Story theme and did dances like the Matarike. Afterwards we did a 2 km hike in the fading light to a war memorial site to watch the sun set. We even spotted the space base in the night sky. We were lucky to not to have to do too many dishes as we shared the duties between our sub camps and we had some lovely ladies who did most of the kitchen work and we just helped them.
Thank you to all the leaders and helpers who were on the camp – we had a great time and I am sure we will have even more fun on the Jamboree Camp being held next January in the North Island.
