Regional Awards
GirlGuiding Southland would like to congratulate all the girls on achieving their awards/badges in 2011. We know how much effort they have put into gaining these. We would also like to thank their leaders, parents and other girls who have helped in anyway. Without your support and guidance, the girls would not have achieved these Guiding milestones.
Felicity Moate of Riversdale Rangers is Southland's latest Queen's Guide. Felicity has been involved with guiding since she was a pippin and plans to continue her involvement with GirlGuiding by being a Unit Helper.

Camp Cook assessment
After being postponed to 28 November due to appalling weather on 5 November we had a nice evening for cooking outdoors.
Congratulations to Sally Hitchcock and Caitlyn George on gaining their badge.
Invercargill Santa parade 2011
Wow! What an amazing turnout with all districts represented. A Huge thank you to Amanda Jones from Paw Prints Facepainting who worked for the hour before the parade on the girls' faces. The smaller girls were on the trailer with Marianne Williams offering to tow it for us, with the older girls and leaders walking behind. Thanks to Marianne for doing this. There was a mother there that had bought along a heap of Santa Hats but I am not sure who she was so if you couldpass on the thanks to her that would be great. I have three hats here from girls that could not find her to return them to, so if you let me know who she is then I can return them to her.
Bring on Santa Parade 2012 as I know we'll have heaps of girls wanting to be back!
Carla.
Mataura River District girls enjoyed it so much that they joined the Gore Santa Parade a few weeks later.

Pre-Jamboree Camp
What a great weekend with wind, water and sunburn all rolled into one weekend for the 33 girls and 7 leaders that attended. It was great to have some new leaders attending their first Regional Camp so thanks to Mataura River, Aparima and Takahe districts for your leader support. Thanks also to Wendy and Sheryl who helped me to pack the trailer before camp and to Wendy for organsing the pick up of keys for me. The girls participated in Night Orienteering at Queens Park on the Friday night with Orienteering Southland. At $5 per girl this was a great experience and I totally recommend this as a unit activity for girls. It was extremely well organised and professional with 3 members attending to make sure all girls got the maximum amount of fun out of it.
Saturday morning saw the girls cooking breakfast for themselves and then their lunch. After a safety de-brief they headed around town for a Photo Scavenger hunt which involved them being seen out and about around town having fun. It was great to see the new friendships formed when they all arrived back with their photos after attending the Santa Parade. After an hour of down time and foot rest the girls got back into their groups to organise their own 'take away' tea with their $6 per person. Food ranged from KFC, Fish and Chips, Pizza and a mixture of all of those things. It was great to see the teamwork and compromising going on between the girls. My group ended up spending every last cent by getting a lolly each from the shop to complete the meal!
Saturday night saw us scrapbooking our photos and campfire inside as the raindrops started.
Sunday morning was wet with a capital W! But with the kind offers to dry tents they all got down without little hassle and Jamboree meeting held. I have already heard of girls that have been in contact since and it's great to see the new friendships that have been formed.
Southland Girls High School was an awesome venue with the old gymnasium a good wet weather inside option. There were also adequate showers, toilets and storage for everyone. It was great to be able to still cook our breakfast and function well in the pouring rain under the eaves of the New Gymnasium. The Jamboree swaps proved a huge hit as well with Prue ordering a whole lot more.
Carla.
Here is the proof they did the photo scavenger hunt and enjoyed themselves!
Big Sista Little Sista - 2011
One Saturday in November, 2011, Southland held their bi-annual Big Sista, Little Sista. There were 3 rangers and 20 something pippins meeting at the IHC home. From there, we walked to the East Road Pets pet shop, which was only over the fence. The attendees of Big Sista Little Sista, parents and leaders included, loved being with the animals. It was an enjoyable day for all.

Mystery Manoeuvres @ Mokotua
Regional Brownie Camp
We arrived (38 Brownies, 11 leaders, 4 Mum's & a Nana) with our must-have items and started to mix and mingle at 5pm on 11/11/11. After our main meal we met our mates and had a mission to answer a mind-bending quiz. Later we got to make a meal mat quietly while the leaders and mum's had a meeting. After a mini meal and a little mucking about it was moonlight.
Next morning after our morning meals and maids (duties) we took off on manoeuvres of mor-ish morsels (hobo stove pikelets), memory games, music and movement, maze making, mystery messages (codes), magnetic memos, mosaic pictures, moonstone masterpieces (bead necklace), masquerade masks, maoritanga (pois), Brownie magic and a round of mini-putt. We also enjoyed "MocDonalds" for lunch.
Then off across the road we went to meet the farmer who took us thought a milking shed with the monster mummy moo's (cows) – most of us made it thru. We walked back thru the paddock with the mini moo's (calves).
After another marvellous meal we meandered around camp looking for somewhere for our musical theatre (campfire). After we made melodies we toasted mini marshmallows over candles and stuck them between mini money-makers (Guide biscuits).
Sunday morning after our meal and maids we had an interactive mass (Brownies Own) before going back in months to mushroom memories (Brownie Heritage) via a fashion parade of old uniform. Our models looked marvellous and the leaders and mums remember the minutes of when they were Brownies.

Final meal was enjoyed with mother-nature. Then it was major maids time as we mopped up and mucked out the mansion, motel and McLeod house and we then got our medals (badges).
It had been a magic weekend. Mega thanks to our masterchefs Joan (& Suzanne), medic Linda, messengers Prue & Serena plus the many motivated leaders and Mum's.
Sheryl and Wendy - managers.
There are more photos of our mmm camp here
Here are some messages from our magnificent Brownies
Camp was awesome, my favourite activity was cooking pikelets
outside. The lunches were yummy too. I also enjoyed exploring the old
obstacle course. It was great meeting the other Lones on camp at
Mokotua. I can’t wait for the next camp.

"We went on our Regional Brownie Camp at Mokotua, it was called "Mystery Manoeuvres". There were about 40 Brownies from all over Southland and some leaders and Mum's and Nana's too. We slept in the "Mansion" which was really good. My favourite part of Camp was meeting lots of new friends, and my favourite activity was "Brownie Magic",
It was great fun doing lots of new things. Thanks Sheryl and all helpers for organising a great Camp. See you next time!

Last Friday I had a brownie camp, There were lots of girls there. We had yummy food like roast meat and veges and potatoes. There were five types of rooms, The motel, mattresses, matresses 2, mattressess 3 and the mansion. I slept in the one called mansion. We did group activities and the groups were colours, my group was blue. On Saturday night we had a campfire inside and we sang some songs. After the songs we had a milo and a biscuit with roasted marshmallows, it was yummy. We all got badges at camp and some people including me got to hand out to the leaders and parent helpers cards. We got to see some calves out at Mokotua, we could get really close to them without them running away. At the end we had a group photo with everyone in it. Brownie camp was fun and I met a lot of new friends and I hope we have another camp soon.

WAGGGS Supper @ Glenrose Brownies
During Term 2 Glenrose Brownies worked through some clasues to gain their WAGGGS International Education badge. A lot of fun was had as we explored other cultures through games, crafts andincreased our knowledge (leaders' knowledged included!) about how important WAGGGS is and what part it plays in supporting girls and women like us around the world. To celebrate the end of term we decided to have a WAGGGSsupper! We chose a World Centre and dressed up to represent that countryand brought along traditional food from that country. As the royalwedding was still quite fresh in our young ladies' minds we had many Princessesarrive with scones, cream and jam! All four World Centres were represented in some way and the food was fantastic!

Matariki Challenge
In June, the 71st Southland Brownie Pack completed the Matariki term challenge. We read about what Matariki is and why we celebrate it. Then we made our own matariki stars which we decorated to show something special about us. We have displayed our stars on the wall for our families to see over the next few weeks.
