You & the global community

Find out what some international charities do, who they help and what global problems they address, eg UNICEF, Red Cross, Greenpeace, Doctors without Borders, World Wildlife Fund.

Masking you

We are often different people in different situations.  Have a go at making masks one that shows the public ‘you’ and the other that is the real ‘you’ [known by your family and friends].

Your masks could be made from papier mache or plaster of paris and gauze.

Decorate to reflect your ‘different yous’.

Assertive not Aggressive

Being assertive means being positive and telling people how we feel.  This is not as easy as it sounds, some times we end up being totally non reactive and at others can be aggressive.

Think about how you react or behave –

  • Passive - I don’t mind; I’ll do whatever you want; no verbal reply, head down, shoulders hunched, little or no eye contact.
  • Assertive - I don’t want to because; I want to be part of it, but I don’t feel comfortable with what you are suggesting; calm voice; relaxed posture; normal eye contact.
  • Aggressive -  Think I’m stupid or something; you must be joking; loud voice; tense body; clenched fist; pointing finger.

Year of the Good Cause

Get together with a couple of friends and agree that you will try and collect the number of 10c pieces for the number of the year e.g. 2009 10c pieces.  Agree on which charity you would like to donate the money to.
