1. Can anyone become a volunteer with GirlGuiding NZ?
Yes, Guiding is for everyone, regardless of race, faith, background or ability. For our Leaders we have screening procedures and prospective members are NZ Police security checked. Safety of our girls’, is our number one priority.
2. I don’t want to be a volunteer every week – is this okay?
Most Units have rosters for adult helpers so that they can help out whenever suitable. Some Units will have occasional helpers who choose only to help out at camp holidays or at special events. If you are more interested in a support role, these often involve work that can be done in your own time and in your own home – for example, doing administration or preparing programme materials.
3. As a volunteer will I be required to wear a uniform?
Many roles don’t require a uniform. Check out our membership categories on Roles within Guiding for more information on who wears uniform. See our Go shopping page for more details.
4. Will I be trained for the role or thrown in the deep end?
Whatever role you decide to take up in Guiding, you will be given the help, support and training you need to do the job.

7. Will my expenses be paid?
Yes. Any equipment, food or other supplies bought for a unit can be reimbursed, as can administration costs and Guiding-related travel. We can tell you more when you volunteer.
8. Is there an age limit?
No – there is no age limit – but you must be young at heart!!! We have a role that will fit you at any age.
9. Can I volunteer if I have a disability?
Guiding is accessible to everyone. When you contact us to volunteer, please make your needs known to us so that we can be as accommodating as possible. We also run disability training workshops.
