How membership is made up
There are several ways people can be part of the organisation as an
- enrolled member
- member
- associate member
- helper/supporter
Enrolled Members:
Enrolled membership is available to girls and women only. These members make a commitment to the principles of the organisation known as The Promise.
Adults in this category are predominantly in leadership roles ie take programmes for girls in units; lead and support adults or have an administrative role. They also
- Wear uniform
- Work towards Leadership Qualifications
Members
Members are those adults who choose to be involved in running units or administration but are not enrolled members. Our male leaders and treasurers fall into this category, as do women who provide their expertise on an irregular basis eg abseil instructors or secretaries. Members have the option of wearing a uniform.
Common features between Members and Enrolled Members
- Pay the annual membership
- Eligible to attend trainings and required to attend a minimum of one per year
- Must support the principles of Guiding
- Receive an Annual Report and the organisations magazine Te Rama
- Receive a membership card
Associate Members
This category of membership is by invitation only and is open to girls and adults. It is intended for participants in community development projects or for members of the community interested in supporting Guiding, but not necessarily taking an active part. They are not eligible for training and may be charged an annual membership fee and do not wear uniform.
Helpers/Supporters [Non Members]
GirlGuiding New Zealand welcomes ongoing volunteer help and support from parents, businesses and the community. Whether for a one off event or task eg biscuit selling, providing transport or for a short term on a taskforce, all assistance is appreciated.
