Each year GirlGuiding NZ has a variety of opportunities available for leaders and girls, both internationally and within New Zealand.

We have groups going to the following events –

  • All Together Now, Guys Farm, Forton, UK
  • WINGS 2009, Berkshire, UK
  • Blå Sommer, Southern Jutland, Denmark
  • Flamboree, Leuven, Belgium
  • Keystone Interprovincial Camp, Manitoba, Canada 


  • Australian Centenary Event – ACE 2010

This is an outdoor camp and everyone will sleep in small tents with Guiding friends.  The tents will be ready for you when you arrive (no, you do not have to bring your own AND they have floors!).   You will be camping in sub camps with your new friends.   The programme will include onsite and offsite activities, a trip into Melbourne, horse riding, sailing in a Tall Ship, surfing at an ocean beach and a visit to the Zoo.

Who may apply: Open to leaders and girls aged between 10-17 years at the time of the event; adults 18 years plus.   Participants should have had some experience under canvas in an outdoor environment prior to the event.


  • Guiding Mosaic 2010, Guelph, Canada

A wide range of activity selections will be offered to all participants allowing each the opportunity to choose their own schedule from the following categories:  Adventure activities, Arts, Sports, Science & Technology, Service, Waterfront and Special Events and Out trips to nearby places of interest.  These may include:  African Lion Safari, Stratford Festival, St Jacobs, Wings of Paradise, Elora Gorge, Niagara Falls, Metro Toronto Zoo and other Toronto attractions also within a day’s travel.

Who may apply: Open to girls aged between 13-17 years (at the time of the event) with leaders – either full patrols of 8-10 girls with two adult leaders; or half patrols of four girls with one adult leader; or adult leaders interested in Core Crew staffing positions.   Patrols will camp together and will be integrated into a sub camp of Canadian Patrols.  


  • GirlGuiding UK Centenary Camp 2010, Leeds, UK

In 2010 GirlGuiding UK will be celebrating 100 years of guiding with Guides and Girl Scouts from all across the world.

  • 1 stately home
  • 5,000 UK Guides
  • 2,000 International friends
  • 3,000 Leaders and adult volunteers
  • Countless activities for everyone
  • 1 ‘Spectacular’ show
  • 7 days of sunshine (or rain if you like your camping wet)
  • 100 years of guiding fun

Mix all ingredients and place in magnificent grounds of Harewood House.  Leave for seven days in the summer of 2010. 

Enjoy a week of fun and lifelong memories to take into the next century of guiding!

Open to girls aged 12-16 years (at the time of the camp) and leaders.



Opportunities & Scholarships

  • Leader_043.jpgGirlGuiding New Zealand Foundation

Assistance in funding will be awarded to girls/women who wish to extend their guiding experiences or horizons.  This may be within New Zealand or overseas.  She should take part in her event or activity within 12 months of receipt of the grant.

Amount available: Grant amounts will be awarded on a case by case basis.

Who may apply? Any enrolled member of GirlGuiding New Zealand.  One application is to be made per member.  If a group is attending an event and wishes to apply for funding then each member of the group that seeks assistance should submit an application. 

Ruth Herrick Ranger Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to a Ranger/Ranger in Leadership who has completed her Peak Award, to enable or assist her to attend a course, event or training (either in New Zealand or overseas) that will extend her experience or horizons. 

Funding available: $1,000, funded by the GirlGuiding New Zealand Foundation.

Who may apply? Any Ranger (including a Ranger in Leadership) who holds the Peak Award

 

  • Mona Burgin Scholarship

Leader028.jpgThis scholarship enables GGNZ members to obtain refreshment of ideas and further enthusiasm by attending an overseas or New Zealand event or workshop.

Funding available:

Who may apply: Enrolled leaders of girls and leaders of adults who have completed the Leadership Qualification. To be eligible, you must have been an enrolled leader for a minimum of three consecutive years. If successful, you must make a commitment to remain in Guiding for at least a further two years and share with members of the region on your return from the event/training.


  • Kenya.jpgJuliette Low Seminar 2009

"A safari...in leadership' is the theme of the Juliette Low Seminar 2009, which will be held in Nairobi, Kenya from 23 to 29 August 2009.

This seminar is a great way for young women to broaden their horizons through interacting with their peers from around the world whilst developing leadership and life skills which will prepare them for national and international responsibilities in Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting as well as in the wider community.

 Amount available: This is a fully subsidised event that will cover costs for the event fee, airfares and travel/medical insurance for one young leader to attend this special event.

 Who may apply: Leaders, 20-30 years

 
  • Sangam World Centre

World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, India

Are you interested in having the opportunity to:

  • Live in India and experience the culture?
  • Make friends with Girl Guides and Scouts from around the world?
  • Help run programmes and sessions for participants?
  • Develop new skills and abilities?
  • Relax in the peace and tranquility of Sangam?
  • Enjoy the excitement and diversity of the city of Pune?

The Community Volunteer Programme at Sangam World Centre offers a unique opportunity to live the WAGGGS mission while staying in Sangam.  After an extensive two-week orientation programme, participants are placed with an Indian community organization to volunteer for four months. 

Who may apply: Open to members of WAGGGS 18 years and over.


  • Asia Pacific Adults Leaders Achievement Award

  • Leader042Outward Bound Scholarship - Leaders 18-26 yrs

Two places are available for two successful leaders to attend the Outward Bound Classic programme, a challenging 21 day course, at Anakiwa, in the Marlborough Sounds.

Who may apply? Leaders, aged 18-26 years.


Funding available:
$3,500 per person, generously funded by Outward Bound supporting organisations.  The cost for the two successful leaders will be $300 plus travel to and from Anakiwa (in the Marlborough Sounds) and a medical clearance.

 
  • Outward Bound Scholarship - All Leaders

Two places are available for two successful leaders to attend Outward Bound on a  challenging 21 day course, at Anakiwa in the Marlborough Sounds.

Funding available:
$3,500 per person, generously funded by National Youth Workers Network Aotearoa and Outward Bound Trust. The cost for the two successful leaders will be $500 plus travel to and from Anakiwa, in the Marlborough Sounds, and a medical clearance.

Who may apply? All leaders, preference given to 18-26 years.
