Has Guiding made a difference to your life?

Life’s most enduring friendships are made early.

One thing however is certain - you’ve got to have a meeting ground for the process to begin.

GirlGuiding New Zealand has a pretty impressive record in this area.

By leaving a gift to GirlGuiding New Zealand in your Will, you’re helping to make a difference to another girl’s life in the future. She will have the opportunity to establish the same friendships and memories that you had over your lifetime and help her to become a leader in the future.

Many bequests continue to provide valuable support to our programmes, long after the gift has been received. Leaving a bequest is one of the most personal ways that you can support our organisation, and for some it is an opportunity to make a gift that you may not otherwise be able to make during your lifetime. You can decide how you want the bequest to be used.

A bequest to GirlGuiding New Zealand costs you nothing today, and gives our girls the promise of a strong future.

" It is nice to know that my gift will allow great things to continue to happen for girls and young women after my lifetime" - Valerie

When there's a Will, there's a way

There are a number of ways you can leave a gift to GirlGuiding New Zealand:

  • A percentage of your estate.
  • A residual bequest that allows you to leave specific gifts to family and friends, with the remaining part of your estate gifted to GirlGuiding New Zealand.
  • A specific contingent bequest that comes into effect only if your primary intention cannot be met. For example; “If (name of primary beneficiary) does not survive me, then I give to GirlGuiding New Zealand…”
  • A financial or asset donation, such as money, property, shares or jewellery.
  • Name GirlGuiding New Zealand as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy.
  • Establish a charitable trust either during your lifetime or in your Will to support GirlGuiding New Zealand’s work.
  • Create a letter (or memorandum) of wishes as part of your trust fund for a trustee to follow after your death.

Talk to your lawyer about the type of gift that will best suit you and your estate.

The following wording is suggested for leaving a gift in your Will to GirlGuiding New Zealand:

“I give to The Girl Guides Association New Zealand Incorporated Registered Charity Number CC22069, ___% of estate, the residue of my estate, or sum of money, or write description of the property or asset given) for general purposes, for which the receipt of an authorised officer of GirlGuiding New Zealand shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my trustees”.

You can let us know about the bequest

There’s no requirement to tell us that you’re leaving a bequest to GirlGuiding New Zealand. However we would like to make sure that your generous giving is suitably thanked and acknowledged in your lifetime. If you do choose to remain anonymous, we will respect your wishes and your bequest will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Gifts in memory

Many family and friends ask for a donation to be sent to a charity they have supported during their life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to GirlGuiding NZ and will be used to assist girls and young women or to go towards the general work that supports all its membership.
